Sleep apnea is a sleep disorder which causes breathing interrupted for many times during sleep. It is also accompanied with loud snoring. There are several ways to cope with sleep apnea, and one of them is Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP). CPAP is a kind of machines which push a controlled stream of air from a medical pump through a flexible tube into the patient's mouth or nose with a sleep apnea mask. CPAP is a popular device. The device will keep the airway open to allow the air blowing gently into the back of throat.

The sleep apnea mask should fit properly in order to give good result in stopping the apnea episodes. The mask should also be comfortable to use. A snuggly fitted apnea mask will prevent leakage of pressurized air. Typically, the mask is made out of soft silicone and hard plastic in triangular form. Several are also made of synthetic rubber or vinyl for those who are allergic to silicone. They are provided with elastic straps or head gear that wrap around the head to keep it in place.
The sleep apnea mask can be differed into three types according to the usage. They are nasal mask, full face mask, and nasal pillow. Nasal mask covers only the nose to treat sleep apnea. Full facemask covers both nose and mouth. This type can help if leaks occur when using the nasal mask. While nasal pillow is the system that uses soft silicone tubes that directly fit into the nostrils.
